Improve Self-Esteem and Overcome Social Anxiety

Suffering from social anxiety can be a real burden on one’s life. Having this problem can really affect one’s self-esteem and low self-esteem also causes someone to continue to have this problem. When you are able to improve your self-esteem, this can lead to overcoming social anxiety.

A lot of people think you are either born with confidence or you are not. Maybe some people are born more confident than others. There is some good news. You can learn how to be confident, but you have to earn it. Many people think that confidence is what you have before you do that thing you fear, but that is the exact opposite of what happens. Confidence is what you gain after going through what you fear. You don’t start off with confidence. Confidence is the bi-product of doing that thing that you fear. I would like to give you some pointer of how to build self-esteem so you can overcome social anxiety.

First of all, admit to yourself that you have a problem. Every problem has a solution. You can either do something about it or do nothing and nothing will change. If your car gets a flat tire, you would probably figure out how to remedy that problem. You may know how to change a tire and if you don’t you would probably find someone who does. The point is, you came up with a plan to fix the problem you were facing. 

Starting off with a plan can really help you out when it comes to developing your self-esteem. If there are specific events that trigger your social anxiety, rather than avoid them, plan for them. If you have a problem talking to people, then plan some topics that you can talk about. Having planned topics can be used as training wheels for us who have social anxiety. Once you start having a few successes, your self-esteem will start to skyrocket.

If you can tackle the problem head on, then do something towards it. If you fear talking to people then just say “Hey”. That’s all. They are not going to think you are strange. People say “Hello” to each other every single day. Stranger say this to each other. If you are feeling a little braver, then say “Hello, how are you?” Once again they hear this every single day.

Building self-esteem can rapidly be accomplished if you have a plan and if you do something towards your goal. Having a plan will reduce your social anxiety. Having a plan is like having training wheels. Instead of avoiding what it is that you are afraid of, plan for it. Doing something towards your goal will give you momentum to face your fear. Try to do something towards getting over your fear and building your self-esteem each and every day.

By just doing these two things, you are setting yourself up to gain a higher self-esteem very quickly. One of the problems that people with social anxiety tend to have is low self-esteem. By improving your self-esteem you can begin to overcome social anxiety and be well on your way to a more fulfilled life.
